During a recent family reunion, Cait, the oldest
of the nieces, was talking about her upcoming senior year and all the
related particulars. We decided to check off the senior portrait, and
while Cait went upstairs to change, I ventured to the car for the camera,
tripod, and flash. I'm not big on formal portraits, but Cait's beauty
and demeanor make it easy to create a good image. I'm not sure this
image was her favorite, but it was easily mine. Cait checked off
another item this past week - she's been accepted, with an academic
scholarship, to Wheaton. Nice job, Cait - we're proud of you!
Technical Details: 1/60 sec at f/2 - 85mm lens -
pixelroom conversion to B&W - RAW ISO 400
There wasn't much challenge in creating this image - Cait handled the hard
part of this portrait. I used a fill flash set
at -1EV off the base exposure to soften the shadows. I would have
preferred a little more subdued background, but this setup produced the best
natural light. I used f/2.0 to soften the background as much as
possible while maintaining critical focus on her face.
