While on a business trip to Nashville, the bus
driver who shuttled me from the airport to the Gaylord Opryland just
couldn't stop talking about the 'vine lady'. I wasn't sure what he was
talking about, but his insistence that my companion and I check her out was
hard to ignore. On day two, she appeared. It turns out the 'vine
lady' is actually Divine, a performer (or performers, not sure if it is the
person each time) on stilts, dressed head to toe in a vine costume.
She walks around the main garden area as a active part of the environment.
It's funny, you don't notice her at first until she starts moving.
From time to time she would move down the walkways and interact with the
guests in a graceful performance of strength and balance. It was
certainly a treat.
Technical Details: 1/30s at f/5.6, 18-200mm lens at
200mm, auto white balance, JPEG ISO 200
There was nothing tricky about this shot. I had the D200 in program
mode with auto iso - basically point and shoot! I was using my trusty
18-200mm zoom, often the only lens I will take on a trip these days.
This image was made with direct flash + a diffusion dome. There was no
ceiling to bounce the light off of.
